MAGDIEL PEREZ
Magdiel Perez is a highly acclaimed artist, not only where he resides in the major art center of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, but throughout this country and internationally. He has participated over the last twenty years in numerous solo and collective exhibitions in Mexico, as well as in Spain, the United States, Guatemala and Germany.
Although Magdiel is well traveled and educated as well as formally trained in art, his work has the basic feeling of outsider or primitive art. His imagery includes animals such as dogs and horses as well as basic outlines of the human form and a frequent focus on images of trees that seem to symbolize the strength and diversity of life. There is a spiritual feeling to the paintings and a hint of the mystery of ancient times and civilizations. Perez almost exclusively utilizes the technique of encaustic painting that incorporates the use of a hard wax along with the oils and pigments placed on the canvas, board or paper upon which he paints. This gives a special patina and texture to the work that simultaneously enhances an ancient feeling as well as a timeless mood, as in from off the wall of a cave in Arles to on the wall of a penthouse in Manhattan.
The exhibit is entitled, “Espacio del Sueno”/Space of the Dream,” a title that was partly inspired by a famous quote from Pablo Picaso, “Everything you can imagine exists.” Magdiel goes on to explain, “Like dreams, the space of a painting has its own laws, a plane where the phenomena of reality is reproduced or represented, but not subject to the laws of physics, gravity for example. Many images of a painting come unconsciously from a dream or are inspired by a human being that dreams while the painter works on his canvas. The painter carries those dream images somehow, and they enter through his eyes, cross his brain and his heart and pass to his hands onto the canvas, and there they are reproduced and gather back together.” Those images of a painting are scenes that are going somewhere or someone is dreaming of them right now and have to be reproduced by artists in some way to be known by the world.
Magdiel Pérez es un artista altamente reconocido , no sólo en donde reside, en el importante centro de arte de San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, sino en todo el país y a nivel internacional. Ha participado en los últimos veinte años, en numerosas exposiciones individuales y colectivas en México, así como en España, Estados Unidos, Guatemala y Alemania.
Aunque Magdiel ha viajado y se ha educado formalmente en el arte, su obra tiene la sensación básica del arte primitivo. Sus imagenes incluyen animales tales como perros y caballos, así como los esquemas básicos de la forma humana y frecuentemente enfocadas a imágenes de árboles que parecen simbolizar la fuerza y la diversidad de la vida . Hay un sentimiento espiritual en las pinturas y un toque de misterio de los tiempos y de las civilizaciones antiguas. Pérez utiliza casi exclusivamente la técnica de la pintura encáustica que incorpora el uso de una cera dura junto con los aceites y pigmentos colocados en el lienzo, cartón o papel sobre el que pinta. Esto le da una pátina y textura especial para el trabajo que crea simultáneamente un sensación de antigüedad, así como un ambiente atemporal, como en el de la pared de una cueva en Arles a la pared de un ático en Manhattan.
La exposición se titula “Espacio del Sueño”, un título que se inspira en parte en una cita famosa de Pablo Picaso “Todo lo que puedas imaginar existe. ” Magdiel continúa explicando :”Al igual que los sueños, el espacio de la pintura tiene sus propias leyes, un plano, donde los fenómenos de la realidad se reproduce o representados, pero no están sujetos a las leyes de la física, la gravedad, por ejemplo. Muchas de las imágenes de una pintura vienen inconscientemente de un sueño o se inspiran en un ser humano que sueña, mientras que el pintor trabaja en su lienzo. El pintor lleva esas imágenes de los sueños de alguna manera, y entran por los ojos, cruzan su mente y su corazón, y pasan de sus manos al lienzo, donde se reproducen y se reúnen de nuevo. ” Esas imágenes de una pintura son escenas que van a algún sitio o alguien está soñando con ellas en este momento y tiene que ser reproducida por los artistas para de alguna manera ser dadas a conocer al mundo.
